Corvette Tech Session 2001 (March 24) - Corvette Row
This book is a must-read. Written by the late James Schefter, respected technology author, who was given full access by GM to the people and places involved in the development of the fifth-generation Corvette. It's a fascinating view inside General Motors from the late 80's through the mid 90's, when GM struggled with huge losses and a sagging market and nearly killed the Corvette. This is not a puff-piece coffee-table book. Check out this brief BookPage review.
Join the C5 Registry after you've acquired your new 1997-2003 Corvette, then attend one of their events:
Membership affords special benefits/access, such as special parking areas, special seating/booth access at races, even the occasional parade lap. C5 Registry Dinners at each event often include Corvette Celebrity guests. Aside from the events, the benefits of membership are marginal.
The C5 Registry's website is also a good place to visit if you want the occasional digest of significant Corvette news. A good toe-dipper.
The addict's resource. When you just can't get enough info or waste enough time, corvetteforum.com is ready. This bulletin board is not for the meek. As with any minimally-moderated bulletin board, most of the content is chatty fluff, but nowhere else will you find more Corvette owners sharing their experience and opinion. (It's up to you to figure out which is which.)
If you're new to the Corvette scene, keep in mind that a visit to any enthusiast bulletin board will be a close look at dirty laundry. You will get the impression that every Corvette is a poorly-built steaming pile of junk. This is normal. Talk to enough owners of any car long enough, from Yugo to Porsche -- heck, talk to enough owners of any product or enough users of any service -- and you could wind up on a downward spiral of consumer depression. If you want to know whether owning a new Corvette will be a grief-stricken experience compared to your last car, ask that question and see what those same complaining owners have to say. Or visit JD Power and check Corvette's ratings against other cars.
Pat's web site includes step-by-step instructions for installing common 1997-2003 Corvette aftermarket options and handy maintenance tips.
