Day One: LeSabre!

Our row-mate is an older gentleman of large proportions. Cramped quarters are somewhat mitigated by interesting conversation.

Jennifer thwarts an attempted substitution of a Chevy Lumina -- a car of such mediocrity it is no longer offered to the public, but of such economy it remains a top-seller to rental fleets -- for the requested Monte Carlo. We achieve Buick LeSabre, a fine if dowdy automobile for a 60-mile drive from Nashville to Bowling Green, Kentucky.

To a California boy, Interstate 65 is a pleasant change of pace from the high-strung urban freeways of home. Jennifer requests a meal stop at -- where else? -- McDonald's.

By 3:30pm we are checked into the University Plaza Hotel. When we made our reservations, all they had left were suites. It was not our choice to have such roomy and luxurious accomodations ;-) but we're not complaining. (Check back with us when we have to sign the bill.)
